No Man’s Land – drama workshop for schools and youth theatre groups

Peter Kyrke-Smith, Musical Director and Workshop Teacher has developed 1914: No Man’s Land, a ‘Theatre in a Day’ workshop, primarily aimed at KS2 groups which introduces understanding about experiences of those involved in the First World War.  During the day-long workshop, children learn songs from the 1914 era, alongside original songs and dialogue specially written for the play.

Children from schools within the Clyst Vale Learning Community thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the first successful workshop at the Northcott Theatre in February 2014, which culminated in a performance on the Northcott stage for families and teachers at the end of the day.

The workshop can be adapted into projects or workshops lasting longer than a day (e.g. theatre summer schools or half-term projects), devising more scenes and dialogue.
