Battle of Gallipoli Centenary ceremony

The Lord Mayor of Exeter will host a small ceremony and reception to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli in the Guildhall on Saturday 25th April at 3pm. This coincides with Anzac Day, which is a national holiday in both Australia and New Zealand, to commemorate the sacrifices made by 10,500 servicemen from those countries during the campaign (compared to the 34,000 servicemen lost by the UK). 1915 Great War Commemorative Rugby Match

A school tag rugby festival will be followed by a commemorative match to re-enact the Great War match between Crediton and Barnstaple, originally played in 1915.
