On Thursday 3rd July, Dartmouth Library will be hosting an Author Event to commemorate the First World War centenary. Totnes-based author Anna Hope is going to talk about her novel 'Wake', set in 1920. The novel follows the journey of the Unknown Soldier from France to England, and three women (a sister, a girlfriend, a mother) learning to cope with loss after the Great War. Chudleigh History Group – WW1 exhibition

From July 5th to 12th the Chudleigh History Group are staging an exhibition in our parish church featuring artefacts, medals, memorabilia  and presentations on the First World War. We have also secured the loan of the British Legion Quilt and Banner for 3 days at the end of the week.

Combe Martin Museum will be remembering the events of World War 1 through an exhibition.  This will open in the Museum's Sailoft on 21st July and run through the Summer season daily from 10.30 - 5pm. Particular focus will be given to the men of the village who gave their live during the war. Totnes Image Bank is presenting an exhibition in the St Mary's church, Totnes. Photograph: the dedication of Totnes War Memorial The exhibition for 2014 focuses on the WW1 years in and around Totnes, featuring war memorials at Totnes and around the local villages, war horses at Kingsbridge, gun week at South Brent, VAD hospitals and convalescence etc., consisting of over 120 images on 12 panels. Lest We Forget - a First World War commemorative flower festival is being organised at St Werburgh's Church in Wembury. The event will be held in the church and will include a display illustrating the effects of the war on the community of Wembury, which has been prepared by the Wembury Local History Society. Totnes Remembers lost soldiers

On Tuesday 5th August we shall be placing in St Mary’s Church, Totnes, details of some of the local men who gave their lives during the First World War. The vicar will say a few words at 11am and this will be followed by coffee and biscuits. The church is open daily from 8.45am - 5pm.  The exhibition will be on display for a few days.

A pictorial exhibition will be hosted in the St James' Chapel, South Quire Aisle in Exeter Cathedral from  25th July until 4th August. This will be a pictorial exhibition of the First World War, including poems by Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg and Rupert Brooke with poems written by Year 8 pupils from Exeter Cathedral School- Summer Term 2014.
