Ilfracombe says ‘Thank You’

Ilfracombe is set to host 2 days of entertainment, ceremony and commemoration of the Ilfracombe men and women who volunteered to defend King and Country, and serve as nurses during the First World War. Saturday 2nd August will see 35 town criers from the UK and overseas parading, along with representatives of those who died, from Ilfracombe Pier at 2pm to Runnymede Gardens where their names will be cried. Chudleigh History Group – WW1 exhibition

On the weekend on 2nd & 3rd August we are staging an exhibition in the Woodway Room in the Town Hall featuring artefacts, medals, memorabilia  and presentations on the First World War. Saturday 10am - 5pm  and   Sunday 11am - 5pm following a special service in the church.

Kenton Past and Present Society are holding an exhibition to coincide with the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War to commemorate the soldiers and sailors of Kenton who lost their lives as a result of the conflict. The Royal British Legion in the Parish of Woodbury, Woodbury Salterton, Exton and Ebford are organising a series of First World War commemorative events from 2nd to 4th August 2014. Hatherleigh is planning a series of events on Saturday 2nd August in commemoration of the WW1 centenary: WW1 Commemoration Exhibition will be open from 11am - 5pm at the Community Centre.  The exhibition will be opened by Dorothy Ellis of Iddesleigh, the last First World War widow, who will lay a poppy wreath made by the children of Hatherleigh Primary School. The village of Berrynarbor in North Devon will be holding a WW1 Centenary Day in the Manor Hall, Berrynarbor on Saturday 2nd August from 10am - 4pm. A special exhibition will cover many aspects of life at home during 1914 and onwards, with references to the conflict itself.
