Barnstaple Remembers WW1

100 years after its commencement, Barnstaple will remember the lives of those who lived, fought and died in the First World War at a commemorative parade and service on Sunday 3 August 2014, which will now include a fly past by a 22 Squadron A Search and Rescue helicopter. Commemorative Services at Thurlestone

The following centenary commemoration services will be held at All Saint's Church, Thurlestone: Sunday August 3rd 11.10am Requiem Service. Monday August 4th 8.30pm Commemoration of the fallen of the First World War at the War Memorial, followed by light refreshments in the Church until 9.45pm. Monday August 4th 10.00pm Vigil in the Church until the 100th Anniversary of the Declaration of War at 11.00pm. All are welcome to attend.

1914 Re-enactment in Beer

On the afternoon of Sunday 3rd August the village of Beer will re-enact an event depicted in recently-discovered photos taken in 1914, as Royal Naval Reservists from Beer marched off to war, led by the village band and waved off by most of the residents.
