WW1 Centenary Lectures in Beer
2 August 2014 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The centenary of the outbreak of the First World War will be marked in Beer, East Devon, by a number of events organised by the Beer 2014 Group, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and local sponsors.
On the afternoon of Saturday 2nd there will be lectures in the Mariners Hall on the Zeebrugge Raid (in which a Beer man was decorated for gallantry), and the archaeology of the Western Front:
2pm – Digging the Trenches by Dr David Kenyon – Western Front Archaeology
3.45pm – Twisting the Dragon’s Tail – The Zeebrugge Raid 1918 by Alan Wakefield (Imperial War Museum)
“We want to pay tribute to all those who served”, said Beer 2014 Group chairman Richard Scott, “and to acknowledge the contribution, and the sacrifice, made by small communities like Beer.”
