Devon History Society – Annual Conference
11 October 2014 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm£10
The Annual Conference of the Devon History Society will this year mark the centenary of the start of the First World War with a range of local stories about the impact on the people of Devon: those that went to war, and those who stayed at home.
The conference showcases the research of local historians and local history societies in Devon, and brings to life records, photographs, letters and memories of Devon people during the Great War.
Three of Devon’s leading historians provide the national context and examine some of the continuing debates: Bruce Coleman looks at how it all began; Jeremy Black re-evaluates military strategy, and Richard Batten assesses Devon’s holiday industry once war broke out.
Tickets are £10 (DHS members free; members of DHS affiliated societies £2.50) and are available from the Devon History Society Bookings Secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org
