Combpyne Rousdon Remembers

Combpyne Rousdon will be commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War on Monday 4th August 2014 with a series of events to remember the men from the village who served and gave their lives:
2.00pm – Rededication Service at Rousdon War Memorial conducted by Rev John Streeting, Rector of Axe Valley Mission Community, singing accompanied by the Axe Valley Community Choir (Musical Director Edward Jacobs)
2.45 – 4.00pm – Talks and opening of ‘Combpyne Remembers’ Exhibition at The Peek Hall. The exhibition will be open on Sunday 3rd August 10am-6pm, Monday 4th August 2.30pm – 7.30pm, Tuesday 5th August 10am – 12noon)
From 4.00pm – ‘Poppy’ Cream Tea in the grounds of North Lodge, Rousdon Estate in aid of the Royal British Legion. At around 4.45pm the Axe Valley Community Choir will lead everyone in singing a medley of popular songs from the First World War, introduced by Martin Platts, Chair of the Parish Council.
10.30pm – 11.00pm – ‘Lights Out’ vigil at Rousdon War Memorial Bring a camp chair and join us as we participate in the national ‘Lights Out’ vigil. A British Legion candle will be lit at 10.30pm and blown out at 11.00pm, exactly 100 years to the minute from the start of the world’s most catastrophic conflict.
